Sara was born in Hastings to parents who suffered in the Holocaust, and through complex means arrived in NZ to a small "shtetl" like community of Yiddish speaking immigrants. A relative in Paris regularly sent vinyl recordings of Yiddish music. “As a family we sang and danced to the music and our parents wept to the songs. The music is how I learned the nuance of the language. As an adult I learned some of the grammar at University in Sydney and established the Yiddish Circle here in Auckland which is lively and active." Sara works as a Clinical Psychologist.
