The first kibbutz was established in 1909 as a socialist agriculture commune. As the years passed different types of kibbutzim arose. During the 90’s the kibbutzim movement hit a financial, ideological and social crisis and it seemed likely it was to become a footnote in history. Today there are more residents in kibbutzim than ever before, and new urban-kibbutzim are being formed across Israel. We will examine the history of the kibbutz using the new documentary series produced last year that gave an insider’s look into them. (TN)
